The Four Way Test

of things we think, say, or do

1. Is it the TRUTH?

2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIP?

4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

The Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

  • FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
  • SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  • THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
  • FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Avenues of Service

Club Service: Provide service to the Rotary club in the spirit of fellowship

Vocational Service: Practice high standards of conduct in business and professional lives

Community Service: Identify community needs and act upon them

International Service: Help fulfill international, educational and humanitarian needs

New Generations Service:  Recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults through leadership development activities as RYLA, Rotaract and Interact, service projects, and creating international understanding with Rotary Youth Exchange.

Grass Valley Rotary Leads the Way

The Rotary Club of Grass Valley was chartered in 1925 with 25 members. Since the first meeting on January 13, 1925 at the Brete Harte Inn in Grass Valley, the club has continuously served the Grass Valley community and Rotary International as an effective and highly successful force for accomplishing the Rotary Ideal of Service. Grass Valley Rotarians have been a visible part of the community for many years and our contributions and dedication to service have left an indelible mark for the better on virtually all aspects of community life. As the club moves forward into it’s 95th year of service our goal remains the same: Service above Self. We will continue to accomplish our goal by planning and carrying out a variety of humanitarian, educational and service projects that will benefit the community and the world.
